Commonly used by couriers
and the postal services the great endurance and affection of the
haurse makes up for its sometimes skitishness.
Combat: Haurs are cowardy by nature and will opt to flee
unless cornered where they will use their teeth and claws to defend
themselves. Pups are guarded by the entire heard and, if threatened,
are surrounded by the adults, much in the way Earths buffalo create
a protective ring about their young.
Habitat/Society: Wild haurs are generally found in light
woodlands where there is plentiful water. They are sometimes a
pest to orchard farmers, especially as their meat is not particularly
palatable.
Ecology: Haurs are omnivorous herds - beasts, they prefer
fruit and small prey but can browse on anything including bark
and leaves if pickings are thin.
Wild haurs are far smaller than their domesticated cousins and
unsuitable as anything but pack animals due to their slight build
and fragile spines. Domestic Hause have been specifically bred
to carry a rider and their economic paces make them extremely
suitable for messangers, couriers and scouts as they are slow
to tire and happy to run as long as there is daylight enough to
see by.
Haurs tend to form herds of six or more individuals of mixed
gender - they tend to pair off during the breeding season but
still remain in the herd - competition seems minimal. A female

the mother (who gains an impressive amount of fat from autumn

Wool from a haurs's 'three year coat' is prized by weavers for
its lightness, warmth and sheer quantity. Both males and females
produce this exceptional coat every three years whether producing
young or not.
Domestic haurs are traditionally gentled to saddle in their fourth
year when their bones are fully grown and generally live fifteen
or so years.
The region of Ahfyek is famed for its battle trained Haurs that
have been schooled to carry banners and couriers out into the
field - haurs from these stables are few and limited to the sphere
of nobility directly under the emperai (country ruling class)
